Today's Very Special Prize goes to the Boston Herald for displaying, right on its front page, a picture of the Emerson college student who was killed by Boston cops during the post-playoff riots in Kenmore Square. The picture they ran was of the young woman right at the scene, right where she lay, struck down in a pool of blood. I'm sure you agree this is a picture we all needed to see with our morning coffee -- especially the family of the girl, who must be going through so much shit right now I can't even imagine. It's refreshing to see the Herald, which desperately needs a derogatory nickname, pretend to be the arbiter of good taste and moral superiority in the city of Boston when they pull lovely stunts like this.

They're already running angry responses to the picture on their website, which just makes me cynically believe this was a calculated attempt to grab eyes. Which, of course, just makes the whole thing even more fucking disgusting.

I really hate the Herald, so much that I won't even read it if I find a copy laying around on the T. I just don't need the aggravation from the self-righteous blowhards what write for it. This is just the clincher, really.

I saw that this morning and was just heartsick. I truly felt ill, that poor girl on the ground and what her family must be going through.

She went to my college before she transfered to Emmerson... I didn't know her, but it's the closest I've ever come to something crazy like this...

It's all a plot of the DEMS and the LIBERAL SENATOR JOHN KERRY.

The Herald needs to be shut down, or at least sold right next to the National Enquirer. It has the journalistic integrity of a used piece of t.p.

Mind you, I think it's really fucking ridiculous that a goddamn baseball game results in death and vandalism. I admit that even I've been following the Sox the past week or so (which is about as much as I ever pay attention), but the fucking pennant isn't worth this. Actually, the morbid, cynical side of me wants to see a poll asking if fans would be willing to see game 7 forfeited if it meant the college girl got her life back. And that side of me thinks that there are enough beef-headed people out there that the majority would take WORLD SERIES INSANITY over LIFE.

The Herald is fast slipping past journalism's Mendoza line, the New York Post. You know what I also love, as an NU student, is that in BOTH papers even though this tragedy happened right near BU the first school mentioned in sentences involving "out of control college kids" was NU. The Globe mentioned NU by name 5 times without naming any other schools (just "other area schools"). When a non-student was killed by another non-student near my school in a sports victory riot the Mayor pretty much called for my school to be shut down. Odd that when the same exact thing happens near BU we get blamed anyway.
