I can't remember the last time I had a full-blown daylight "did I see what I think I just saw?" hallucination. I don't think I've ever had a good one, really and that's even with any chemicals which I may or may not have ingested during some formative years, so this morning's little escapade in visual plausibility was a surprise. And I've been pretty much clean, that kind of stuff-wise, for a long time now, so that's another reason why it shook me.

This morning, however, I woke bolt upright in bed snap out of a dream. I can't remember what the dream was. It probably doesn't matter. I just woke up. I could hear the tarp outside flapping in the breeze. I stared at the deck door, which I'd kept open all night for crossbreezes, and then I noticed it.

There was writing all over the white deck door. Lines and lines of capital letters, slightly angular in shape, varying in size, covered the door, particularly the upper right-hand corner around the windowframe. I was a good 10 feet away and my eyes were still bleary so I couldn't make out the words, and the letters were black, so no dripping red REDRUM words or nothing -- it didn't seem very threatening, at least.

I actually blinked, rubbed my eyes, and opened them again -- the second-most popular cliche when one is not sure what one is looking at (the first, of course, is pinching yourself to make sure you're not dreaming) and the words still looked like they were there. This was odd. I knew the screen door was closed and locked, so I'd have woken up if someone tried to bust in. And really -- who the hell would climb up three flights and bust thru a locked door to write all over the other door?

Then I got up and walked over for a closer inspection. True to form, the words were gone when I looked close-up. However, the wood on the door is old and weathered and painted white, and cracks in the wood have given it a lined paper sort of look. I saw the lines where the letters had been moments ago, but I didn't see the letters. So it was just an odd aberration, a weird play of light and shadow and bleary eyes that had just woken up and were still adjusting to the post-REM sleep world in front of them.

Or was it? I'm watching the cats now to see where and when they spook. They don't seem too apprehensive about the door area, though. I can't wait to see what I find tomorrow morning.

So using googlism is a fun way to ego-surf, that much we know. And it purports to give you results, with context, based on a google search of whatever term you request. That's a given.

So when I asked it to do its magic for 'spatch', it gave me a bunch of fun results, some regarding the spatch 3d modelling program, others having to do with the wireless messaging gateway that's advertised on spatch.com. One of them, however, said "spatch is currently residing" and I was curious as to where I was supposed to be. So I put in "spatch is currently residing" into google proper, and got...

one result -- that of a Googlism page itself.

Well, that's a dandy recursive result (and self-fulfilling, too!) if ever I saw one.
