Staying awake for 36 hours is an interesting exercise in natural altered states. Your Second Wind around 15 hours or so is invigorating and rejuvenating ("Okay, maybe I don't wanna go to sleep right now") but the Third Wind at T plus 23 is just the doorway into a magical floaty world of lucidity and wonder. Now, at T plus 36, a 15-second stretch lasts forever; you begin to feel the ethereal puppet strings that keep you upright and reasonably level with the world. The id steps back for a while (goes out for a smoke?) and, if left unchecked, you could churn out reams of bullshit just like this! without much thought or external effort. It's a shame most stream-of-consciousness writing isn't very illuminating or enlightening upon a second, well-rested, perusal.

And of course, while the sleep that eventually does happen (I'm giving it 30 minutes or so) is a restful sleep, it's also an overstimulated sleep. This means the dreams are all obsessive-compulsive, full of confusing and repetitive scenes. I guess that's the trade-off.

See you all in half a day, when I'll finally have to own up to the fact that my car still won't start and needs to be moved out of its current parking spot by Wednesday morning. (Anybody got a car and jumper cables and some time Tuesday afternoon/evening for to help me figure out if the problem is entirely electrical or not? Shoot me a line, please. I beg of thee.)
