[livejournal.com profile] pheromone and I spent a bit of Monday afternoon hauling my disassembled desk up three flights of stairs, whereupon I promptly stripped two screws in the crosspiece, ripped two other screws out of one side of wood, and rendered the entire desk unusable without some serious reparative work.

Oops.

I also went to Microcenter and bought a wireless adapter for the ol' computer. Now the computer doesn't want to see any PCI peripherals at all. Cranky without explanation, it won't give the network card an IRQ and refuses to believe I have a sound card in a PCI slot as well. This after it first thought I had no primary IDE chain, and I had to take everything apart and put it back together again for to make the seating well-seated. The computer is but 5 years old; we've had our rough times before (like the time I had to manually give everything IRQs through the BIOS) but this time it looks as if we may be sunk. This is most distressing as I do not have the funds for a full replacement computer.

Needless to say I am not pleased. I also don't have an Internet connection at home anymore, unless by some magical miracle I can bring the computer back to the living room, plunk in the old network card, and have it work.

I'm not expecting it to work.

Grah.
