A long time ago Mister Weasel of Heinoush fame gave me a copy of this beloved song, though he readily admitted the recording quality left something to be desired. It's one of my favorite songs of all-time, however dated (but you can easily change the date and keep it fresh, up-to-date and relevant!) and is sung, a cappella, by a group known as Free Hot Lunch.

HYMN 694

From coast to coast her highways lead
All across the nation
With every exit marked in green
To guide our destination

Oh, what an astouding thing is our Interstate highway system.

Her bridges span the rivers wide
All across the nation
Her tunnels pierce the mountainside
With sexual connotation

Oh, what an astounding thing is our Interstate highway system.

And every spring we hear the sound
All across the nation
Construction season has begun
A fucking irritation

Oh, what an astounding thing is our Interstate highway system.

And those who still go fifty-five
All across the nation
We'll pass as fast as we can drive
Heed not their trepidation

Oh, what an astounding thing is our Interstate highway system.

Twas Eisenhower's greatest feat
All across the nation
In '88, still not complete
A contractor's salvation

Oh, what an astounding thing is our Interstate highway system.

Amen.
(big finish!)
A-men!
