Two more SF/31 films

I know you don't care about this, but I read each and every one of your Arisia posts, so there.

Two more films have been booked for SF/31: STEAMBOY (2004) and George Romero's THE CRAZIES (1973).

THE CRAZIES is a great programming coup, as it's been another one of those films we've wanted at the Marathon for a long time now (the trailer, with its bombastic announcer breathlessly warning viewers of THE CRAAAZIES!! is a long-time Marathon favorite, usually shown alongside the FLASH GORDON trailer.)

We apparently have access to both subbed and dubbed prints of STEAMBOY, with the crowd split 50-50 on which they'd like to see. I said personally, if the film is shown in the first 12 hours of the 'thon, the subtitled print would rock, but any time afterwards, we gotta watch it dubbed due to glazed eye syndrome. We watched several episodes of a German 1950s sci-fi show in the last hours of the Dedham marathon, and I don't think I parsed any of the subtitles. None! I just remember they danced the Galaxypso a lot.

The event sounds fantastic, and I'd love to see a lot of those movies with an appreciative audience!

I'm concerned that I'm not likely to enjoy staying up until noon, though, and I sleep very poorly sitting up. Can one leave, get a few hours of sleep at home, and come back?

Re-entry with handstamp and/or ticket stub is A-OK (and honestly, at a certain point, they just stop checking.) Sometimes you need it. One of my girlfriends used to attend with me but she couldn't stay the entire 24 hours; I'd drive her home around midnight, she'd get a good night's sleep and come back at 10 AM or so, and drive me back home in my groggy, sleep-deprived state.

The dates are Sunday-Monday, February 19-20. That's noon to noon.

It's at the West Newton Cinema this year, which is in The Middle of Nowhere for us T types. But I'm there come hell or high water, so I know what I need to do (commuter rail down one day, bus home the next.)

Cost of the thing right now, since we're still in Advance Ticket time, is $48.50. That's like 4 bucks a film!

"middle of nowhere" is hilarious to me because it's walking distance from my house (not that i'm there anyway).
there's good places to eat around there, too.

I'm pretty tempted. I haven't seen BUCKAROO or SERENITY (I'm horrible, I know) and I really rather want to. and I love movies and geeks, I prefer film and the big screen...
I'll THINK about it - I don't really have $50 on hand and I'm not sure what my workload will be at that point. I also have class at 15:00 on monday so it's not exactly the best day for me to have no sleep in my system.

but with a reaction like that, it's pretty hard to say no. How long do I have before the ticket prices go up?

I always prefer to watch dubbed animation. Subtitling in animation seems to cause a disconnect in my brain. I want to look at the lovely artwork, rather than read the dialog. Reading takes me out of the movie.

Opposite for live-action, though. Live-action dubbing is a crime. I'm more than happy to read the subtitles, because because it doesn't seem to detract from the visuals. I don't know why my brain is split like that.
