Alas, I have to admit that I have been past Airport many a time. I used to live right off Beachmont. Sorry to spoil your myth.

How can you not love an announcement that says "Next Stop: Wonderland"?

Tired items seen today on the TTC:

-bag so tiny I refuse to give it the name of "bag" (perhaps "purselet")
-shoes (dress shoes for work; passenger was wearing runners)
-cell phone (since when does anyone put their CELL PHONE carefully on the seat next to them? they fit in POCKETS for crying out loud)

Yep. I hadn't ridden all the way out to Wonderland when I first saw the movie, but they really do make that announcement and it made me inexplicably happy to hear it.

One of my "ways to kill a saturday" a few months after I moved there was to ride from alewife (was that end?) to both other ends of the red line, as well as the ends of the blue and orange lines. I never quite got bored enough to ride to the end of all of the green spur lines, though.

The Muni uses trolleys similar to those on the T Green Line (and the Mattapan line), but the Boston trolleys have dedicated rights-of-way on median strips when they're running on surface streets; they just have to stop for cross traffic. I think at least some of the Muni streetcars really are streetcars, hostage to street traffic as if they were buses.

Or has that changed?

Also, staring too long at the Muni logo will fry your brain.

I think the Orange Line is the only line on the MBTA that I've actually ridden completely to every end. I've ridden to Alewife and Mattapan on the Red but not to Braintree, and I've only been to the end of some of the Green branches (I guess nobody can ride to Arborway these days, but they've started actually admitting that the E branch is more than just temporarily closed beyond Heath Street, so it probably doesn't count).

A method I used to kill Saturdays when I was in grad school and procrastinating was to walk from the middle of Cambridge down to the river, then walk along the river (crossing any of the several bridges) and into downtown Boston, and usually ride the T back from Downtown Crossing. If the weather was nice it was a great way to spend the day.

actually, the last time something closed 'temporarily' was the Green Line from North Station to Lechmere. It came back, though a few months later than originally scheduled.

Is this because trains are sort of like roller coasters?

The MATTAPAN HIGH-SPEED LINE! Evidently "high speed" has a 25mph speed limit. It's great that they repainted the Bondo on those PCC cars in orange-and-cream livery when they refurbished them. And it's a lovely ride in the daytime when the trees have leaves.
