Two new sets are up on Flickr, everybody's favorite "I'd like to buy a vowel" photo site.

MARBLEHEAD BEACH BY DAY
Random trip to a random beach in Marblehead. Thrill to cameraphone-quality sunset shots, wise signs, and I don't know what that other thing is.
NECCO GARAGE BY NIGHT
Here we are playing with light and brightness and I don't know what that other thing is.

You have an amazing eye for photographic composition.
I think you missed your calling... again.

Very nice, Count Spatchalot.

Do you know what the resolution on your camera is?

Yeah, what sort of cameraphone is this? The shots look so much better than pretty much all other cameraphone shots I've seen. I'm not sure how much of that is hardware and how much is magic spatchiness.

Hey, that's the phone I have!

I just can't figure out how to get the pictures out once I've taken them, so they're all there on the phone and can only be viewed on that tiny screen. Nothing artistic like the ones you've taken, of course - they're all kid pics.

Accent on the 'head

Most of those great shots are of Devereux Beach, except for (best as I can tell) the one with the shell-shaped sundial (at least, that's what I seem to recall it being intended to be when it was installed in the '80s or so). That little beauty *ahem* sits on a much smaller inlet across the street called Riverside Beach, where there is a ramp for lowering boats into Marblehead Harbor and is the spot from which the town's July 4th fireworks are usually set off.

Ah, sweet memories of my youth in the 'Head.

Hard to remember, 'cause when I went to that beach regularly, I was probably in my *cough* pee-in-the-ocean phase *cough*, but yes, I do believe there were working terlets and possibly even showers in that thar little house-y thingamajigger. And there was a fine little snack bar a few steps away that used to really just be a snack bar but is now almost an actual *gasp!* restaurant. (It's so wrong, if you ask me. An ice cream truck and a Thermos™ should be sufficient for a full day at the beach!)

Once I got a bit more growed up, it was way cooler to go to Preston Beach, on the line between Marblehead and Swampscott. (No, I don't actually remember why it seemed cooler.) There were no public toilets there, but my friend Nina's house was across the street and, after college, my parents moved near there (traitors! on the wrong side of the Swampscott line and everything!) and THEIR restrooms and showers, not to mention parking spaces, were mighty convenient. Also, free, which is more than can be said for parking at any of those beaches otherwise.

RiverHEAD Beach, not Riverside!

Brought to you by Shelley's latest Senior Moment, and the letter Y.
