We all knew about Bruno Kirby, sure, but how come nobody told me Mike Douglas died?!

I loved Mike Douglas when I was little. More than Dinah Shore but not as much as the Match Game. Ah well. It just means that all three hosts are now gone, gone, gone.

Oh and I forgot to report that yesterday's used book romp resulted in one (1) set of memoirs about Harold Ross as written by James Thurber, and one (1) collected set of letters written by Fred Allen for only 3 bucks. Ross, Thurber and Allen are all dead, too, but they've been dead longer than Mike Douglas.

You gotta read the Globe obituaries. This one took up over a half page.

The ticker across the screen on my local morning news show said "Actor Michael Douglas" blah, blah dead.

So, yeah, they were clever.

Just to let you know, I have all of Fred Allen's books. Unfortunately, I've only read Treadmill to Oblivion so far and I've glanced through the letters. I'm going to want to read Much Ado about Me when I find what I did with my copy.

Merv Griffin is still alive, though. I thought of him as Mike Douglas's main competition, back in the day. A few years later came Dick Cavett, also still living.

Hee! Glad to hear you are romping and practically frolicking. I'm sorry your dude died. Death is a side effect of life. Or maybe life is kind of a side effect of death. I get them mixed up.

I used to watch him on TV, too. I remember his set design being very Seventies, which makes sense, it being the Seventies at the time and all.
