Won't be Slashdotted today. The MBTA shit comes down and stays down. Maybe Google already cached something for y'all to look at. But it ain't gonna be here.

Sorry.

I posted the story itself in a comment on the Slashdot post, I hope you don't mind.

And too bad if you mind, because unless you're a Scientologist, Slashdot won't remove it.

I can see that you might need to take the pictures down to avoid bandwidth charges, but isn't LiveJournal text cost-free to you, no matter how many people read it?

Oh boy, and they're playing the userid-pissing game, too! I'm so tempted to take my big fat lownum and go rain on their parade...but there's a reason not to read the comments on slashdot...

actually, you may be interested to know that LiveJournal LAUGHS at Slashdot. They are no match for us! As a matter of fact, if we linked Slashdot in [livejournal.com profile] news (especially if they were wanking about LJ), we could probably LiveJournal them!

Yeah, last I heard LJ was about 10x our traffic (I'm a Slashdot programmer). Probably more by now. But I don't know what percentage of LJ users read news.livejournal.com on a regular basis. The Slashdot Effect was only spoken of with fear and awe because basically all our readers are reading the same thing and going to the same place. (And nowadays hardware and bandwidth are so cheap that really only the dinky sites get anything-dotted anymore... "dotting" was mostly a 1999-2002 phenomenon...)

yeah, probably true. Slashdot and LJ are very different culturally that way. But if we linked it in news and started a meme and linked that in large communities . . . who knows?
