how has this joke not been done before?
Feb. 27th, 2007 10:13 amThe Fung Wah bus has a ready-made advertising campaign, you know. The jingle can be this absolutely fabulous Dylan tune:
Ask me sometime about my binge yesterday where I tried to get as many copies of The Hawaiian War Chant as I could, and ended up with this incredibly awesome Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen version.
If your memory serves you wellMan, when I get home I'm so hitting up $ONLINE_MUSIC_FINDY_THINGY and grabbing all the versions I can find, from Dylan's tapes to Siouxsie to Adrian Edmonson.
We were going to meet again and wait
So I'm going to unpack all my things
And sit before it gets too late
No man alive will come to you
With another tale to tell
But you know that we shall meet again
If your memory serves you well
This wheel's on fire,
Rolling down the road
Best notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode
Ask me sometime about my binge yesterday where I tried to get as many copies of The Hawaiian War Chant as I could, and ended up with this incredibly awesome Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen version.

Date: 2007-02-27 03:52 pm (UTC)There were way too many watery-down jazz versions on iTunes but some swinging ones; I like the ones without lyrics the best, but Ella Fitzgerald does a decent version. Kenny Ball, however, did this rippin' hot trad arrange with screaming clarinets and an Buddy Rich-esque pounding drumbeat and, of course, a section in a minor key with gives it this Arabesque flavor, and it's my favorite.
Actually, my favorite of all time is the Spike Jones version ("As the sun pulls away from the shore, and our boat sinks slowly in the west...") but apparently Spike recorded several versions, and the one I like best (involving gurgling the tune and the preamble above) wasn't the version iTunes had, so I'm still searching for that one.
