The menu item for the cheese fondue at Grendel's reads "Serves two." This is incorrect. There appears to be a printing blemish on each and every menu. Upon removing the blemish, the menu clearly states "Serves two armies."

Holy cats. Six of us could not even finish the beast, which was served in crockery the size of one's head. That's not to say we did our damndest, though, because the stuff was very delicious and quite filling. But we left a whole lot behind, and now I reckon I won't need to eat until the end of the month.

Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as too much cheese, no matter what Wisconsin tries to tell you.

The Happy Hour special is one of the bestest specials in all of Harvard Square, indeed. We got our orders in right under the 7:30 cutoff, too, which made it all the better.

Actually, we didn't. We had garlic bread and some folks were cheating by eating nachos and french dip as well, but STILL.

Man, I haven't been to Grendel's for Happy Hour in ages. And I don't think I've ever gotten the cheese fondue.

There is no salad bar any more, unfortunately. They are only the basement -- the part that USED to be the main floor is now Upstairs at the Square, which used to be Upstairs at the Pudding, until Harvard kicked them out of the building with the Hasty Pudding club.

However -- they've got craft-brewed beer for, like, $3.75/pint.
