Well I certainly do feel sorry for those who won't be around tomorrow cause I'm gonna be posting about THE COOLEST MOST AWESOMEST STUFF EVER and it's gonna be great and there'll be a party and there'll also be a cat party for cats and there'll be balloons and dancing girls and popcorn and free ice cream and beer, but I'm going to delete everything at 11:59 pm on Friday night so, like, oh well.

I suppose I should take a few paragraphs here and make a little ahem-hem statement about how the "day of no posting" protest should be called just that: a protest, not a strike, but I'm willing to bet most of those around who are intelligent enough realize that the effects of this are purely symbolic.

And really, as a one-day measure, this activity will achieve nothing that an actual "strike" should, because its very nature is nothing like a strike -- namely, the prolonged and continued deprivation of an industry's revenue, manpower and product by refusing to do that which one is contracturally obligated to do.

If you seek to make a symbolic statement by refusing to voluntarily participate in LJ for one day, by all means, make your voice heard by not making it be heard for once, and more power to you. But if you've got the WGA strike fresh in your mind and believe that you're really gonna show SUP a thing or two by lessening their server load and reducing their bandwidth usage for a day, boy howdy are you are barking up the wrong tree.

But enough of that. Anyway, it was more fun to write things like "THE COOLEST MOST AWESOMEST STUFF EVER" and "a cat party for cats"

Can I bring cake to the cat party for cats? And ice cream? Ten different flavors.

Labor unions do sometimes use one-day strikes as a tactic, though this may be more common in Europe than in North America.

It's not like it's a *reading* strike, just a posting strike, so be awesome.

Not that I intend to participate in the "I'm going to do nothing AS HARD AS I CAN and hope they notice!" protest.

I would say that I'm bummed becuz I'll miss out on your post tomorrow, seeing as how I'm participating in the strike. Luckily, I can just read it the next day anyway.

Symbolism is all it is, really.

I've been able to avoid all of the stupid stuff LJ has done just by not having an interests list.

Guess I can still participate in the strike and read to my heart's content. I'll simply choose not to post any entries or comments.

Being a radical has never been easier.

[livejournal.com profile] hemlock_martini has accurately characterized the action as more of a "snit" than a "strike."

I think I shall protest by using all twenty of my voiceposts in one day to record an album.

Also: Because you might miss things on your friends page, I should point you to this, if you weren't aware.

I'm just hoping the dancing girls aren't allergic to cats. That would lead to some embarressment at the party...

If the dancing girls are wearing feathers, the cats will be entertained as well. Granted, it will be something of an interactive performance.

No--didn't you read? He's deleting everything at 11:59.

I'm not worried, however. You couldn't stay off LJ for a day for personal edification, remember? You'll be bored out of your mind and joining the cat party for cats at 2pm.

But does anything ever REALLY get deleted?

You couldn't stay off LJ for a day for personal edification, remember?

That's only because I can't live without an audience. It was much more exciting for everyone for me to fail that day.

I seem to have misplaced my invitation to the cat party for cats. If I'm going to play chauffeur for my furriest family member, I think I deserve the simple decency of an official invitation, don't you? Please send directions and requests for hors d'oeuvres. (Cats love hors d'oeuvres, or so they tell me, so I will bring some along. I guess I'm kinda like the cupcake-bringing mother of a kindergartener. Also, I like writing hors d'oeuvres.)

Forgive me. I have not been well. This is what happens when you have a religious experience that convinces you that all religions are irrelevant.

It's no wonder those posts get so many responses. People are so gosh-darned defensive about maintaining their worldviews! What's the big deal, people? I mean, come ON already!

I'm not looking to accomplish real change. I don't care how LJ runs its business. However, I don't appreciate being called a "blackmailer" by LJ's parent company when I am upset about changes being made, without prior announcement or even an announcement that the change had already been made, to a service I pay for.

I think the only people who should be allowed to bitch, however, are paying customers, who, you know, give their money to the company in the first place. Whining because you can't get something for free anymore is kind of pointless.

On the other hand, as someone with a permanent account, I don't really care about most of the changes they're making (or at least, haven't felt the effects and haven't gotten a straight story as to what some of them even WERE). Mostly I'm concerned that my friends will stop participating and my community will move on elsewhere when I have no plans to follow.

I guess I'd rather they not mess things up just so that all my friends stick around, but personally, I'm not terribly worked up. Life is not predictable so I don't feel like I CAN feel cheated, even if I am disappointed they aren't doing a better job to make folks happy.

which is to say, I will be attending the cat party for cats with bells on.

Heh, totally agreed. To add to your bandwidth point, I also bet that pretty much everyone who is going ZOMG STRIKE is still gonna hit their friends page to see who's posting and who's not, so they won't even be cutting into the site's traffic for the day.

"Cat party for cats" reminds me of the last time I saw Phantom on stage. A little kid was walking right behind us afterwards going on and on about "this musical called Cats, and um they all dress up like Cats and it's like about Cats, and and and..." It was quite possibly the greatest thing I have ever overheard.

Did somebody say CHICKENS????

Friend of [livejournal.com profile] violetisblue, joining in the festivities just because... well, because I'm kinda exhausted from hauling groceries home, actually, and because I never had any intention of "striking" today. Whoa. I think I've stopped shaking from overexertion now.
