Uma Thurman's latest film Motherhood opened in the UK last week to resounding cries of apathy.

According to this here Guardian article, the film grossed only £88 in its opening weekend. Maybe that was due to an opening day rush?
On its debut Sunday, box office takings were £9, meaning one person bought a ticket.
Indeed, as the Guardian so astutely noted, the viewing public "stayed away in record-breaking numbers." I love that turn of phrase.

Later on in the article you also learn that there were multiple screens involved so it's not like this was a case of being screened solely at a small, out-of-the-way cinema at 11:05 am on a Sunday morning or something. Nah, it was in slightly wider release. Especially damning are the reports that even those with tickets to free screenings couldn't bring themselves to watch the whole thing. Sure, it may be easier for Walky McWalkersons to walk out of something free since you've got nothing to lose except your time, but in this case it's just funny.

It probably also doesn't help that Uma looks like Sarah Palin with a dye job in the publicity still.

Maybe if they went IMAX 3D...

Wow. She really does look like Palin in those stills. Had to see it to believe it.

From now on I will believe everything you ever say without question.

I wonder if I'd look like Sarah Palin if I wore MILF glasses and an updo?

See, this is what happens when you let women write and direct films. This is why none of them will ever win an Academy Awa...wait, what? You're kidding me.

Okay, there goes that theory. Ummm....can I blame it on the Sarah Palin glasses too, then?

This is the first semi-attractive Palin-esque photo I've seen. I swear I don't understand why people go gaga over her.

The still is just wrong. At £9 a ticket, I wouldn't see anything.

The BEST thing is that neither the popcorn lady nor the ticket guy have any recollection of the film ever showing at their cinema.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it...

I think this goes beyond apathy to antagonism. Full-fledged "DO NOT WANT".
