The GOP seemed giddy at the prospect of dredging up Franken's past statements to derail his candidacy. I can understand why given what we've seen with Christine O'Donnell recently. Franken is the same age as my dad. It seems that a lot of people that age give people a pass on what they did in the 70s. Also, I get the sense that through a lot of old fashioned, retail politics Franken managed to convert a fair number of people to the view that he really is a serious person.
