Canned Laughter is like cue cards for The Audience... they let me know when i am supposed to be amused! It also helps me avoid laughing at the innapropriate moments on M*A*S*H. Should I be bemused by Hawkeye's antics, or appaled? Thank goodness for the Laugh Track!
Well, yes, it's condescending and prompting, but some shows don't need it and recognize it as such. If the promo-makin suits put the laughter on the Scrubs promos, then it's gonna attract an audience that might expect it. And when the TV box doesn't tell them what to feel or when to react, THEY GONNA BE MIGHTY CONFUSED AND CRY AND AND
oh, who am I kidding. I should just be glad they don't put it in the actual show.
Please stop making reality shows. It's the brave thing to do. Just imagine, you could be the start of a whole new trend in television entertainment: Actually managing to entertain. Where you go, CBS and ABC are sure to follow.
