A long time in the long ago reign of the benevolent Presidente Clinton I had occassion to be at the Suffolk County Police Department's helicopter (Air Mobile) unit's base near Ronkonkoma, N.Y. Getting there about an hour early for the appointment I had (I know- Jim and early, two things that don't go together) I found one lone officer wandering around looking like Jan-Michael Vincent from Airwolf. He looks at me and says, "Hey kid- you with the college class?"

I said yes. We get to talking and then he gets this look in his eye, "you wanna fly around?"

(insert all sexual jokes here. OK. Done? Good, we shall proceed)

So we climb into the department's Bell Jet Ranger chopper and wing around the area surrounding the base (Long Island Expressway, Ronkonkoma LIRR station). At one point he says, "hey wanna take the controls?"

And I let out a cry of "DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24TH AND ONE HALF CENTURRRYYYY"
