Updated ticket link ahoy, cap'n!

Oh, yes. Hello. Here's a little something something for the science fiction fans among us.

SERENITY is screening one night only in select cities, 10:00 PM, Thursday, May 5th. Loews Boston Common is the place here in Boston.

Well.

It gets better.

As thus: The movie is very nearly finished. You've seen many pretty images in the trailer. But I've still got work to do and you've still got months before you can see it.

Unless.

And, no, I'm not talking Australia (but Hi, Australia! anyway), I'm talking here in the more-or-less-United States, a one time multi-city Browncoat sneak event. Thursday, May 5th at 10:00 pm, the movie (Serenity! Pay attention! Jeez.) will be playing at exactly 10 theaters in 10 cities across the country. You (or possibly someone much like you) (or possibly a robot EXACTLY like you, but with better manners and sonic arm-lasers, sent to take your place) will be able to buy a ticket to see Serenity months in advance. Not just the bitty trailer with not enough Kaylee and Book, but the whole film, in its extremely almost completed state.

You probably have some questions. How is this possible? What cities exactly will it be in? What are these changes my body is going through? All valid. It's possible because some clown put a bunch of Universal execs in a theater full of Browncoats and dude, they came out SWEATING, they never seen energy like that. They loved it, and even though they were already wicked supportive of the movie (see: earlier posts re: we're making the movie) they simply weren't ready for you guys. When I whinged on about pushing the date and everyone here was posting about "what do we do till September", they agreed to let me sneak it out.

Maybe they thought it was a fluke. Maybe they wanna see if people really do care about the flick. Or maybe they're just treating us with respect and kindness, though that last option confuses and terrifies me as much as these changes my body is going through (I'm "perspiring" and becoming "interested in girls", which believe me is very unsettling when you're 40.) Does it matter? The plan works for me, and it can work for a select bunch of y'all. Here's what I know:

If you're in or near one of those, you might wanna stop by. There's supposed to be a "Can't Stop the Signal" page on this website (I don't know where it is -- hey, I remembered my damn password, doesn't that buy me any cred?) There should be more info there soon about how to get in, bringing peeps into the fold, I think there's even competetions and stuff. (All I know is I have exactly 20 Brownie points. I answered ONE triv Q and got it wrong. Forget cred. I have no cred.) Now a couple of us might just creep into one of those major metropolitan multiplexes to see if anyone does show up, so remember: swearing in Chinese ONLY.

All right. This will please the fans and satisfy the employers of Joss Whedon, so I must stop as my arm-lasers are getting tired. I politely thank you for your attention.

The Browncoats website has a few more details on the thing, but you can just skip all that and order Boston tickets here. Typical Loews prices, $9.75 or whatever for a ticket.

I've already bought a ticket. I don't care that I'm working til 10:30 that night, I'll get out of that somehow. Or just go in earlier and make up the hours. I'm all set.

And no, I didn't want to ask "HAY ANYBODY WANT TO GO" or "HAY ANYBODY WANT ME TO HOLD A TICKET FOR THEM" beforehand. If April has taught me anything it's that I have to arrange my own fun myself. I'm not getting burned four times three weeks in a row, thank you very much. However, if you're lucky enough to get a ticket, let me know and we'll meet up and enjoy the film together.

Curiosity: I'm getting an error message when I try to order my Atlanta tickets. Were you able to buy your Boston tickets through Fandango?

Fandango seems to be notoriously flaky. Perhaps it would be best suited as a pie crust rather than an online ticket ordery thingy. I got my tickets very very early Wednesday morning; hopefully you were able to find Fandango at a non-flaky moment before the Atlanta showing sold out.

Sadly, I failed in my mission. :(

In a particularly grr-inducing way: I went to the theater at noon. They said they were sold out. I left, disappointed.

At 5, one of my friends posted that he'd just bought tickets.

I actually drove back to the theater to ask the manager what the hell happened.

Seems that they'd sold all they could, per the fire marshal's guidelines - and then, in midafternoon, gotten the okay from corporate to sell the 12 remaining seats that they're normally not allowed to sell. My friend got two of those.

I'm still snarly about this. I was there first, dammit. I don't begrudge him having tickets, of course, but I should have gotten tickets as well, dammit!

It will be dark (especially for the return trip home). I do not know if I will be wearing sunglasses (although I just ordered some 3-D glasses online last night so maybe that'll do in a pinch). There will be tanks of gas and packs of cigarettes involved, though.

That's Robb Sherwin next to me (we and some others met up there for the Classic Gaming Expo). "Finger guns" had been the theme for the weekend, even though I was the only one who remembered to do it in time for the camera flash.

Drat! That night my best friend has rented out a club in honor of his husband's birthday and gotten five of his favorite local bands to play and a bunch of people I haven't seen in too long are flying in to be there and it starts at 9pm and no, there's just no way I can get out of even part of it.

Kung Fu Ninja may not be the appropriate job title for River, but certain... things have been hinted at in several of the later episodes. I'm assuming she won't go all Bullet Time though, and frankly, one can only be "ooh I am scared in my mind I shall huddle in the corner spouting rhymes now" for so long.

First, I never saw the show Firefox so I'm guessing the film will be nothing more than entertainment. Will probably wait til it hits video, if that.

Besides, I'll be celebrating my mom's birthday on the 5th.
