I love that New York even thought that they were in the running for the olympics.

I live in New York, and I was sad that anyone wanted us to be in the running. But I lived in Atlanta (actually, I was a student at Georgia Tech) in '96. Eeeeaaaagh.

As a native New Yorker, I am so very glad that NY didn't get it. Generally speaking, it's not a good thing for any city, but rather for the business contractors. Word on the street was that the defeat of the west side football stadium plan basically killed any chance the city had for winning the bid. I was also glad to see that plan killed. Stupid stuff.

A part of me wonders if the lack of the west side stadium really had as much to kill the bid as people seem to think. When the IOC delegates asked the NYC team during the final presentation how they will be handling the athletes coming from countries on the U.S. "terror watch" - or security screenings against their list of names, and the bid team failed to answer that, it made me think that the IOC never intended for NYC to get it anyway.

Forgive me, but:
