Well, he's a stage actor first and foremost; won a Tony as Bud Frump (the nebbish cousin-of-the-boss) in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. He met Gene Rayburn when they were both in Bye Bye Birdie (Rayburn had replaced Dick Van Dyke) and that explains the Match Game connection. And of course there was his turn as Jose Chung on the X-Files a few years back.

Reilly is chagrined that he's best-known for his game show work, though, and said this in his one-man show about his game-show stints in the 70s: "I was told years ago that I would never be allowed on television. Now I had to try to find out who you have to fuck to get off."
