Well, we'd all have fins and scaly skins
We'd breathe through gills instead of nos-trils
And we'd eat fish food instead of vitamin pills!
(It's scary but it's true...)

I can't decide which bit of A Mighty Wind is more brilliant: The spot-on folk song parodies, or the spot-on album covers.

You gave me sweet things and flowers
You gave me a sky so blue
You gave me a rock to lean on
And I gave myself to you

We wandered through each other's secrets
We traded an honored word
We shared a solemn promise
But like the raven's cry, it must be heard

Now a sailor's life is a life for him
But it never was for me
And I've never soared where the hawk may soar
Or seen what the hawk might see

Never hiked to heaven on a mountain trail
Never rode on a river's rage, no I
Never did no wanderin'
Never did no wanderin'
Never did no wanderin' after all.

I wish someone had done more scans of the album covers. These are all I can find. Well, plus a Mitch solo album a la Dylan:

Personally, I crack up at They say the highways just one big road,
and it goes from here to there
everytime.

Parodies or not, I thought the music was pretty great. I went online to see who actually did the playing and singing, and I found out that the cast wrote and performed all of the songs and instruments. Sure, they're funny and whatnot, but that's a very talented cast to do all of that. The concert at the end was also done live and in front of all of those people, recorded almost in real time.

I keep waiting for a good opportunity to use "HEY, WHA HAPPEN?" but will such an opportunity ever occur? I DON'T THINK SO...

This movie's completely spoiled my ability to watch actual folk music performances on PBS. Without giggling, anyhow.

They are both equally great. Oh how I love that movie.
