So there we are in Second Life tonight and we notice that south of my happy home with giant coffee mug and spoon that goes 'round and 'round, there's a giant fundamentalist billboard rotating in the sky for Jesus. Nothing wrong with that, as we've come to terms with living in a virtual land between the fundies and furries. But even so, I realized that what SL was really missing, other than artwork featuring dogs playing poker or Margaret Keane big-eyed children, was mindless devotion to Starship.

I converted my art gallery slightly.

Now it's the 24-Hour Church of Starship.

And there it is, complete with awesome Googie sign and everything! You can also see the giant Jesus billboard in the background. This does not compare with the giant Christ statue that someone's building in another sim. Fleep and I perched up on there and talked to the builder, who was a nice enough chap and sincere in his devotion. Then I stood up on a cylindrical object and fell off Jesus.

Inside you can kneel, knee-deep in the hoopla, at the altar of Starship. I suppose I should put in a tithing option at some point as well. Also, while you visit, you get to enjoy "We Built This City", Starship's #1 hit and the #14 song of 1985!

THEN I HAD A GUEST! A REAL LIVE GUEST PERSON WHO ISN'T A FRIEND WHO CAME BY. SHE WAS ALSO DRESSED LIKE A HOOKER, BUT I DIDN'T TAKE A SCREENSHOT BECAUSE PEOPLE HEAR IT WHEN YOU TAKE A SCREENSHOT. So I had to make do with taking a shot of our dialogue after she left. I then commented to Fleep's Fun Club "I have just made someone Very, Very Scared."

The Church of Jefferson Airplane has just excommunicated you.

There's always that tension between Orthodox and Reform.

Please let us know when the Jefferson Starship Synod puts up a church next to you.

Okay, I really have to get back into SL. Hopefully my character still exists.

When I had a summer internship in Japan in the summer of 1992, at one point the other interns and I caught the last train from Tokyo back down to Kamakura where our dorm was. It, being the last train, was packed. I amused myself by tormenting one of the other interns with Starship tunes. As I recall, he found Sarah particularly painful.

No time is a good time for goodbye!

Feep, is that icon from Ultima IV?
