Before I went off and had my little SL building spree last night, Goodrich showed me the first three episodes of Spaced, the British comedy with more clever pop culture references than you can shake a lightsaber at. Very nicely produced; you can easily tell how Shaun of the Dead was borne from this braintrust. Oh, for a region-free DVD player! I rarely feel personally marginalized by the giant media conglomerates and the copyrights they vigorously enforce, but I sure don't dig it when The Powers That Be say "No, no, you can't watch this import, little boy, unless we decide to release it!" and then... not release it.

Ah well. The nefarious criminal downloading things one is forced to do...

While in London in July i bought the complete series of Spaced but've yet to be able to watch a single episode for the same reason. Luckily, my UK copy of the wonderful TheOffice-precursor The Brittas Empire seems to actually be Region-0 and play just fine on my xbox; i plan to order the other seasons ASAP.

I've HEARD that you can order other-region DVD players from Amazon.uk but I have no idea how true that is and do not have time to look into it for ye now. But it's a thought.

I have such a crush on Spaced. I loves it. I'm so glad you're watching it!

Yes, I also have a six CD set of Euro centro History of the 20th Century in the wrong zone and am unable to rewatch here, except on my laptop but that creates other difficulties since you can't change zones more than 4 times. Although, I found it very informative for my lack of History taught in my school.

There's a website that has codes you can use to make your dvd player into a non-regional dvd player. My dvd player has a really stupid code which is helpful because I have several region 2 DVDs. I also converted a region 2 dvd player in the UK into a non-regional dvd player so it works on both sides of the pond.

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php might help you.

If you really want a region-free DVD player I can talk to a friend from Singapore who's recommended I get one there, where they turn off the region restriction for you in the store.

I was going to get a portable, myself.
