I've deleted the overly snarky entry about the media circus surrounding the Congress Street meth lab because the story is too close to friends and FOFs. I'm sorry for my flippancy but I maintain that the news crews are wanking overtime on it and the entire OMG SO CLOSE TO CHILDREN'S MUSEM angle is annoying as heck and it's not cool.

they *are* wanking overtime, and most of the things they're saying simply aren't true. it's depressing to see just how wrong the news coverage is.

It's lurid sensationalism, and the constant reminders of the Children's Museum nearby, now that I'm checking more sources online, are making me grind my teeth hard.

i'm pretty damn sure the claims that they were manufacturing crystal meth are false, for example. it's not like they were going to run down the street and try to sell it to 10-year-olds.

also, if you want my opinion, i don't think your flippancy is out of line. i mean "life goes on." it's just sad, is all.

Um, what meth lab on Congress Street? I can't find anything about it on Boston.com, Universal Hub, or a Google search. My internship's right around there - what happened?

From the Boston Glob article, which is pretty much the most subdued of all the stuff I've found so far (primarily because they don't mention the site's proximity to the Children's Museum, which was almost the focus of the Herald's lurid wankfest):

Methamphetamine lab found, Boston police say
November 15, 2005

Boston police yesterday were dismantling a methamphetamine laboratory they had found in an apartment at 369 Congress St., officials said last night.

On Sunday, authorities got a call for assistance and found a man, 29, who had suffered cardiac arrest during sex acts, police said. The man, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead.

Two people were interviewed. Police said they seized marijuana and ecstasy. After a more extensive search of the apartment yesterday, police found the lab, authorities said. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive drug that has been blamed for an epidemic of abuse in some parts of the United States.

Cleanup of the apartment will continue today. No arrests have been made.

The man who died, as it turns out, was a friend and acquaintance of quite a few people on my friendslist. I removed the original post as I felt it made light of his death, and that wasn't the point; the point was in the media orgy going on down there now and the sensationalism. I'll hafta rewrite it at some point cause I'm still rather peeved by it all.

I didn't get that sense at all from your post. I thought it was pretty clear that you were aiming at the media and police activities surrounding this.

I am in complete agreement. It was obvious the post was completely about the 'media circus', not the death. I didn't feel like you made light at all.
