Is that an actual breed or something? Because it is freaky. It looks more like a Corgi.

Isn't that just a munchkin breed cat?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munchkin_%28cat%29 - the article's picture isn't very good; I have a better one in my big book of cat stuff at home.

What's even weirder is a cross between that and a breed called "La Perm." Not only is it totally wrong-looking, it is also totally wrong-feeling.

After discovering that some friends had one of those, I did some research learned that cat shows in some countries have banned Munchkins, because they don't think the gene should be intentionally and widely propagated. It's the same gene that causes one of the kinds of dwarfism in humans.

Wacky.

It is. They're called Munchkins, and it's the same sort of birth defect that gives you the human dwarfs with the short legs and arms but normal-sized heads and bodies.

I am told that they don't usually suffer or experience pain, but I think they can have problems with their backs.

I don't like the idea of breeding disabled animals (they have problems jumping onto high surfaces) for the cute factor.

I thought that they were bred on purpose so that they couldn't jump up on furniture. Which is just wrong. (If you want that sort of pet, get a cat statue or something.)
