I thought that they were bred on purpose so that they couldn't jump up on furniture. Which is just wrong. (If you want that sort of pet, get a cat statue or something.)
That would have to be one of the worst reasons ever to intentionally breed a gene like that.
The writeup that orionsmom found, though, seems very sympathetic to the critters, and says they're very loving and lovable. I'd still want one because I like cats with dear, sweet, slightly crazy personalities.
