It! Was! Baseball!
Mar. 20th, 2006 11:53 amESPN is reporting the Sox have gone and traded Bronson Arroyo for Cincinnati's outfielder Wily Mo Pena.
Now while I'll miss Bronson as much as the next boy band groupie, I'm more than chuffed to see that we're continuing to collect as many wacky baseball player names as possible. First we grab Coco Crisp, and now we get Wily Mo Pena. Not since the days of Rollie Fingers, Catfish Hunter and Boston's own Spaceman ("I like to sprinkle marijuana on my cornflakes in the morning!") has Major League Baseball been blessed with such great monikers, and I want Boston to catch 'em all.
Now if only we'd kept Pokey Reese...

Date: 2006-03-20 05:26 pm (UTC)As for the trade, I'm really not sure about it. We trade a moderate-to-good pitcher with a lot of potential for an outfielder who hits lefties with power but doesn't have a spot in the lineup a day after signing Juan Gonzalez (an outfielder who, when healthy, hits with power but doesn't have a spot in the lineup)... meanwhile, we've got Dustan Mohr tearing up the grapefruit league, and Adam "Mr. Canada" Stern demonstrating that he's got major-league stuff, and then, of course, Gabe "Ken Doll" Kapler, who's gonna be back and healthy soon too. Are we going with the exciting new five-man-outfield shift?
Plus, no more cornrows.
