You know, reading Internet meme explanations on Wikipedia is a lot like having some jackass with bad breath and something hanging from their nose sit down right in front of your face and adenoidally drone on and on as to why something inexplicable is funny, until it's no longer funny.

Okay, see, it's funny, cause this guy first went to the circus and the clown insulted him, right, and he was totally humiliated, and so then he took some self-assertiveness classes so he could return to the circus, and he got back up in the spotlight like he had been before, and the clown told the same joke, right, and gave the guy the same insult, and then the guy took the microphone, and even though he'd taken all those self-assertiveness classes and was able to totally reverse the outcome of almost any situation, all he could say then was "fuck you, clown" which is funny, since it's just hurling invective back when really he had all the skills necessary for a complete and utter verbal destruction of the man in the clown suit, also it's funny due to the incongruity of loudly uttering an obscenity over a public address system especially in a circus crowd where you know children are present who shouldn't be listening to such things

When I worked as a subtitle editor, I had to write joke explanations for foreign language translators...it was the most bizarre phenomenon. I had to really think about why things were funny, and then explain them in completely non-humourous terms.

Either way, I kinda agree, but then there are some phenomenon (such as Hatten är Din) that I probably would've welcomed some explanation on, back before wikipedia. heh.

What I like is rudimentary background information: "The song used is this. The picture is from this show." But trying to explain why the thing is funny is the dealbreaker.

Mel Brooks said it best, when he compared comedy analysis to dissecting a frog. Sure, you figure out how it works, but after that, the frog's dead.
