Nestled away from the storms that whip the coasts of the small island, "The Nest" as they called it provided shelter and a view through the trees at the rocky coast beyond. It stood as a testiment to hundreds of summer adventures (and a few brave winters) filled with stories of lobsters, clams, sea otters and deer (the last of which had swum over from a nearby island and eaten all of Mom's sweet peas).

It had always been red, we always suspected it was so as to be able to find it better amongst the greys and greens so common with every wind-washed item an island can collect. And because it was tucked into the trees, we would be hard pressed at the beginning of each summer, to find the path that led to it if we couldn't already see it waiting for us, calling us in for the next adventure.
