Date: 2006-06-07 05:01 pm (UTC)I don't think they deserve a lot of the invective that gets hurled at them. If you're on a budget and need a computer, their stuff is actually pretty decent.
However, after having owned two, I will say this: they are generally immune to tinkering and upgrades, many of their components are somewhat flimsy, and after three years or so I guarantee you're going to want a brand new computer.
I'm not saying this to make you feel bad or act all superior, either; just thought I'd pass along my experience.
Oh, and also, that no astronaut babies thing? Totally bogus. There's a rebate for twelve free astrobabies buried on their website, you have to go through the "customer service" section and find the missing pixel. But it's there.

Date: 2006-06-07 08:32 pm (UTC)The big bright blue LED on the case is something else, tho. Last night the computer decided to go into sleep mode, and the LED blinks like a hotel neon sign. When one has taken melatonin and is light-sensitive and trying to get to sleep, one takes notice.
