Abbie On Computer Plastic Bag Warnings! Silica Gel!
Oh, our intrepid friend Abbie has found himself a computer box. "I WOnder what could be INSide," he muses. "Maybe there' streasure" Our first foray into the box yields a plastic bag with some very strange glyphs. I believe they're warnings or rules of some sort. The one on the left is clearly "No Al Jolson Imitations" and the one on the right, I think, is "No Astronaut Babies." And finally, inside the box, is the treasure! The prize we sought! Silica Gel, and baby, it's inedible! Yowsa yowsa yowsa!

Too bad Abbie disappeared before I could show him the silica gel. Oh well, c'est la guerre.

Cat litter! I used to use cat litter that looked a lot like that (and claimed to be made mostly of silica gel) when my roommates had cats.

Would you be so kind as to tell Mr. the Cat that he is (a) quite a handsome sight atop the computer box, and (b) makes me homesick for my own fuzzbucket?

An eMachine, eh?

I don't think they deserve a lot of the invective that gets hurled at them. If you're on a budget and need a computer, their stuff is actually pretty decent.

However, after having owned two, I will say this: they are generally immune to tinkering and upgrades, many of their components are somewhat flimsy, and after three years or so I guarantee you're going to want a brand new computer.

I'm not saying this to make you feel bad or act all superior, either; just thought I'd pass along my experience.

Oh, and also, that no astronaut babies thing? Totally bogus. There's a rebate for twelve free astrobabies buried on their website, you have to go through the "customer service" section and find the missing pixel. But it's there.

You need more photos of Mr. Abbie. He's the smartest blogwriting cat out there. He also needs a friend. What does one do with all that silica?
