I went to Funtown a couple times when I was growing up. I had my first real date there. We kissed in that weird ride that always reminded me of the creepy boat scene from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"--it spins you around a dome while they show vaguely creepy and disturbing movies on the walls. I don't remember what it's called...

That would be the Astrosphere and yes, it would still be the dome with the creepy stuff on the walls (and now lasers and strobe lights and stuff.)

And yes, the song they play exclusively at the Astrosphere is still the Electric Light Orchestra's "Fire On High."

Dude. The Astrosphere is legendary. I loved that ride as a kid.

I was just in Maine last week for almost a week... and seeing your post reminds me that I really, really want to end up back there. I don't know where in Maine, nor do I know when, but I'll be highly agitating for moving to Maine when moving decisions are made in a few months.

I went there a couple years ago.

It amused me that one of the cars on the Excalibur ride was named "King Arther" (and that I was the second person to point that out in a week, and no one had ever mentioned it before....)

I wanna go back....

Arthur's front seat has since been repainted. In fact, I'm willing to bet any misspelling was committed during a repainting, as it was spelled correctly when the ride opened.

Arthur gets the front, while Sir Bors de Ganis gets the back. By the way, the ride was named by a local student, who received for her efforts a lifetime pass to the park.
