Well, today's not a total wash at least.
NEW YORK (AP) -Yankees owner George Steinbrenner said he was "deeply disappointed" at his team's elimination in the first round of the AL playoffs, calling it a "sad failure."
Let me accurately phrase my response in MMORPG-speak.

[NYYBoss]: wtf wiped
[RedSoxSpatch]: omg cry more noob
[NYYBoss]: what a sad failure
[RedSoxSpatch]: somebody call the wahmbulance
[NYYBoss]: stfu, we sposed to win every year, we have uber gear
[RedSoxSpatch]: one sec, I'm checking the Care-O-Meter
[RedSoxSpatch]: DON'T CARE |-\----------------------| CARE

Sure, we didn't even make the playoffs this year, but that won't stop me from laughing in the face of Mr. Deep Pockets Georgie here. How'd you like buying your way to a first-round elimination? Whee hee hoo!

Maybe Torre can go someplace where he can actually show off his managing ability. I hear he's actually good at it, but who can tell with that payroll? I feel fairly confident that even *I* could manage the Yankees to the post-season.

"Rest assured, we will go back to work immediately and try to right this sad failure and provide a championship for the Yankees, as is our goal every year."
Spoken like a true CEO. Leverage those goddamn resources by seamlessly integrating real-time coaching knowledge to maximize a paradigm of victoriousness or you'll be repurposed.

our guy said:

"Moving forward, we are determined to develop a strong and competitive team every year. As has been the case in the past, we will commit the resources necessary to achieve our goals."

at least he doesn't try to refer to a winning season/pennant as a *product*.

Joy of joys, the Yanks are gonna 'splode. Gene Michael era, coming up. Boss is gonna go all Al Davis on it now by hiring Lou Piniella.

*squee*

TK, you don't want Torre. You guys need a real driver, not Hoke Colburn.

Well, of course he wouldn't say "product." Pennants are deliverables. [I feel dirty just typing this!]

Yeah, but I won't really feel satisfied until someone other than the Yankees win the AL East.

And there is one person on my friends list -- the only Yankees fan on my friends list -- who doesn't get why the Yankees are despised by everybody else.

Imagine an owner making that same statement, with 'Cubs' or 'Devil Rays' substituted for 'Yankees'.

And isn't it nice that the death blow was dealt by our previously sub-sub-basement Cinder-fella Tigers, who went on a long, relaxing losing streak prior to the post-season? Then they lost the first playoff game, woke up and had a stretch, and smacked the daylights out of 'em.
