spatchMy favorite part of opening and reading the nice little notices the health people send me every time I visit my doctor is the line at the bottom of the note, after they've explained to you just how much your particular visit cost, how little they covered and how much (minus the co-pay you already paid) you will have to pay at some nebulous point in the future.
The line says "THIS IS NOT A BILL."
And it tells the truth. It is not a bill. It didn't even include a reply envelope, for pity's sake.
What it is, however, is a portent of impending financial blech.
