According to Forbes' 20 Richest Women in Entertainment list, Judge Judy, the television judge who signed a four-year, $100 million contract in 2004, makes more per year than all nine Supreme Court justices combined.

Just mull that one over for a while.

I guess they aren't as telegenic as Judge Judy. -shrug-

Your shallow thought of the day.

Some of those women must be really good at investing, because in a lot of cases I can't remember the last entertaining thing they did.

Maybe that's why they want to allow TV cameras in the Supreme Court (http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1131583507730).

I'm not sure if that bothers me. I'm not a fan, as I remember her having a sort of arrogance about what she considered common sense that made me want to disagree with her even if I thought she was right. I get nervous when that attitude is celebrated too much. Amplified too much, it can distort in an ugly way.

I guess I can't say I have anything against tv contracts paying that much, either. If that's what the market wants...I don't know much about it. I suppose being the personality behind a show with lots of viewers is worth a lot of money.

But I don't know that I'm all that much in favor of public office paying a lot. It seems like an incentive for miscreancy.

I kind of think it could be worse, yeah. I mean, at least she's actually sitting there judging cases, and she has to go through hair and makeup in order to just basically do her normal job, which kind of sucks. (Although I'm sure she wouldn't do it if she didn't enjoy it, and the money. I'm just saying.)

My father worships her a little bit these days (the things that happen to a person on retirement, I SWEAR) which is creepier than whose salary hers is higher than by a long shot, I think.

Tara says that she likes Judge Judy more than all the Supreme Court justices, and that if Judge Judy were on the Supreme Court maybe we'd actually get something done.

Le sigh.

Well, Judge Judy does deal with cases so stupid they'd never get within 500 miles of the Supreme Court. They only get the legally significant cases and all tied up in a neat little ribbon with exquisitely prepared briefs and obsequious folks doing the presentation.

If you think about aggravation factor, or the possibility that she might just stop one scary-toothed maniac from loaning her cell-phone to her jail-bird ex-boyfriend, maybe JJ is worth it.
