A cat appearance did happen like that when I was working as a dresser at The Huntington in a production of Much Ado About Nothing. A cat lived in the scene shop, ostensibly to catch mice but more because everyone loved him. Well, almost everyone.

Kitty picked one of the lead actresses big monologues as a good time to wander out. He did a loop around one of the set's trees and then scurried back into the wing. When the audience laughed unexpectedly, it threw the actress and she went up on her lines momentarily. I guess that would upset me a little too, but not so much that I would run shreiking down to the green room, shoving people out of my way, and commence to smashing up my dressing room, which is just what she did. I had to help clean it up. Broken makeup containers and powder everywhere.

Actors are so fucked up. ;-)
