I was living in Mobile and had two work-related weeks in Memphis when Pulp Fiction came out, so I caught it at a local theater during the interim weekend. Walking out of the theater afterwards, I could not recall the last time I'd had that much pure, unadulterated fun going to the movies. Tarantino's never quite lived up to that moment; Rodriguez came awfully close with Sin City. Only one other film springs immediately to mind as matching or besting that sense of amusement-park-ride since.
Though I confess to an irrational desire to see it again at the Brattle at some point. 3 hours in the Brattle's seating with some guy's head in the way would probably go a long way toward replicating the experience they were going for...
