I seem to have found myself watching Bob Barker's last turn on The Price Is Right.

So I can say I was there, man.


The first contestant won a Corvette, and then they played Plinko. The place is going nuts.

Let's see:

1. Short girl in green custom t-shirt wins Corvette.
2. Girl plays Plinko, gets all five chips but wins only $1500.
3. Guy wins speedboat playing The Range Game, and it proved you ALWAYS have to listen to the audience in the Range Game.

Showcase Showdown: Corvette girl wins after a spin-off with Plinko girl, and then wins $1000.

4. Guy from Canada is called to Contestants Row and nearly faceplants on his way. He actually gets up next and wins a car playing the "is it this price or that one?" game. Bob milks the suspense for all he can.
5. Woman named Melba replaced Guy From Canada on Contestants Row, people were throwing confetti of their own for her, she wins the bid and is now playing Grocery Game for a camper RV. She is extremely nervous.

Oh no! Melba lost the Grocery Game but it's okay because it's been a dream and a thrill etc just to be onstage with Bob. She was wearing a t-shirt with a ton of people's messages all over it.

A guy in a plain blue polo shirt is the last person to make Contestants Row, joining one girl with a t-shirt reading PLINKO PRINCESS and a guy with a shirt that says BOB IS #1.

The BOB IS #1 guy is up onstage. He waited five days to be on the show.

There was a one-dollar bid, but it didn't win.

BOB IS #1 is up to win a bunch of board games... AND A NEWW CARRRR!!
He's playing Any Number, so those who were hoping for Cliffhanger are probably really sad.

BOB IS #1 "won" the Piggy Bank prize on Any Number.

They played the Failure Horns. Everybody dances the Schadenfreude dance.

Contestants not appearing on stage... blew it!

BOB IS #1 got 55 cents on the first spin and ends up getting 80 cents.
Melba nearly konks her head on the Big Wheel, then falls over again on her second spin and the guy from Canada helps her back up. GO CANADA! She doesn't beat BOB IS #1's price, so Bob says "Let's get you back over here before you hurt yourself!"
Dean spins, gives a shout-out to Canada, but can't beat BOB IS #1.

"This Showcase is all about things with the word SAINT in them!" Whoa, lame.
First up: A trip to St. Maarten!
Next: St. Patrick. Guess where that leads? EXCITING IRELAND!!
"And certainly your friends will think you're a saint when you pick all the kids up from soccer practice in this LINCOLN NAVIGATOR!"

There was a cartoon for the "saintly" mother. I wonder what would have happened if the showcase was for the guy.

Corvette Girl passes to BOB IS #1, who bids $61,000.

Second showcase involves Barker's Beauties trying to come up with excuses to skip her dentist's appointment.

The first one remembers she left steaks cooking on an outdoor grill.
The second one remembers that she is due to leave on a cruise through the lovely and scenic Mediterranean! I hate scheduling conflicts like that.
Finally, the third one remembers she has a free coupon that expires "in five minutes" for a car wash for her NEW CADILLAC CONVERTIBLE!

Corvette Girl is excited to the point of incoherency, but she bids $84,823.

Now we have a maudlin and depresso commercial featuring a family at a family reunion talking about how they miss Dead Uncle Joe.

It's for life insurance, apparently.

GET IT NOW OLD PEOPLE! YOU WILL DIE SOON! YOUR FAMILY WILL TALK ABOUT YOU LIKE THIS!

Actual retail price for Corvette Girl's showcase: $90,761... for a difference of... $5938!

Actual retail price for BOB IS #1's showcase: $68,677... for a difference of $7677, which means CORVETTE GIRL WINS!

She has won $104,235 in prizes and her family's totally excited.

Bob Barker makes a nicely humble speech. I may paraphrase: "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to thank you for inviting me into your homes for the past thirty-five years. It has been an honor and a pleasure. And please remember, help control the pet population! Have your pets spayed or neutered! Goodbye!"

Then they all go over to Corvette Girl and her family and wave goodbye, and I think Bob got a hug from Les Moonves.

I missed it? Son of a bitch. I loved watching that show.

Back when I was in college...must have been sophomore year, we did this stupid thing where each floor in our complex (4 dorms, all connected) picked a "name" pertaining to South Dakota and its history, blah blah blah. I can't even remember what our floor chose, other than it was in Sioux. But one of the other floors called themselves the "Bob Barker Floor" (as Bob himself was born in...I believe it was Lemmon, South Dakota.) They all got tickets to the show over Spring Break, and one of the RAs made it to contestant's row.

Farewell, Bob Barker. You'll be missed.

(Also...is it bad that I recognized the dragon icon immediately, even though I should be too young to remember the show? Thank you, syndication!)

Someone tell me I wasn't the only one to get misty-eyed from the get-go.

It had to have been the energy in that studio. Every time someone got to "come on down!", it was as if the person had just won a seat on the last boat to heaven.
