churros in ear = dance all night
Jul. 12th, 2007 01:20 pmIn good news, 9/27, 9/30 and 10/1 have been approved for time off (and hopefully I'll have the same schedule by then.)
I think I'm going to say hi to these guys.

Date: 2007-07-12 05:35 pm (UTC)The kids are making noises about wanting to go to Santa Cruz soon. Looks like I'll get another chance to see if I fit in the seats on the Giant Dipper.

Date: 2007-07-12 07:03 pm (UTC)I miss the 20,000 Leagues ride, which I recall was the one replaced by Nemo and pals.

Date: 2007-07-12 07:32 pm (UTC)While there are concerns that Disneyland is gonna turn into Pixarland (but honestly, folks, Disneyland has always been reflective of Disney's other entertainment properties) I think it was great that they decided to bring back the submarines, whose removal caused such a sad uproar, and update them a bit to get kids real interested in it.
I am looking forward to the Nemo ride more than I am to seeing Jack Sparrow in Pirates, but I still have the full ride soundtrack and, on certain occasions, can turn off all the lights, put the soundtrack on, and actually re-ride the thing in my mind.
It's become that ingrained.

Date: 2007-07-12 08:55 pm (UTC)And you know, "Pirates" wasn't even supposed to go into Disney World in Orlando. Phase 2 of the development project, to be completed in the mid-70s, was a unique new attraction in Frontierland that involved a humongous mesa that incorporated both a "western river expedition", a trip to the top of the mesa for a view of the park (but honestly, in my opinion, I'd have thought they would determine looking at the tops of show buildings to be Bad Show) and a mine train roller coaster.
The philosophy at that point was to ensure that both parks would have their own unique, signature attractions so that people would feel compelled to visit both. However, one of the most frequent questions they got at WDW Guest Relations was "Where's the Pirate ride here?" So they killed the Western River Expedition and fast-tracked their own version of Pirates.
However, the mine train project lived on as Big Thunder Mountain railroad, but its final version was nowhere near as detailed as what it would've been.
