The fact that Arizona Iced Tea has official Arnold Palmer-approved Arnold Palmer iced tea beverage (half iced tea, half lemonade) is very amusing to me. Apocryphally, Mr. Palmer created the drink (yeah, and Shirley Temple invented the ginger ale and grenadine) but it's a fact that he liked it so much, ordering it all the time at the 19th hole and other places, that it was unofficially named after him.

Now it's come full circle and I think he even trademarked the drink name.

I don't know why but this amuses me to no end.

--how could anyone believe even apocryphally that he created that idea? I'm pretty sure people have been drinking lemonade ice tea since the invention of the icebox, if not earlier. POPULAR MYTHOLOGY: BE MORE PLAUSIBLE. >:0

no kidding - I know there's a place (sunshine something or other) in Augusta, GA that serves it. Not the Arizona brand - but their own lemonadey iced tea goodness.

I remember the first time I heard someone order an "Arnold Palmer" at a restaurant. I thought it was some sort of mixed drink (or perhaps a non-alcoholic one like a Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers).

This drink freaks out [livejournal.com profile] laura47, who calls it "old man juice."
