You know that BOINGGG sound of a kettle drum being tuned up that you hear when a cartoon character falls on its butt?

I made one of those today. With even a FWEEP! slide whistle sound effect as my leg swung out from under me on the ice. Unfortunately I did not hover in mid-air a second or so before the fall, nor was I able to stay in air indefinitely until I could look down and realize I was defying gravity and cause the levitation to fail. I did, however, fall straight down and rocked back onto my backpack, which was nice at least. But my right hand is slightly cut up from landing on the non-slick part of the ice in an attempt to stabilize myself and my right ankle was twisted in a way God didn't mean for it to twist in the first place, so now it is incessantly complaining about the completely unfair treatment it has received and loudly at that. There is no position that the ankle won't complain about. Lousy stinkin ankle. Ain't I been kind to you?

I think the thigh is also sympathizing with the ankle's plight and stretching oddly. But that's winter weather for you here.

I just like the part about making cartoon sound effects.

Tell me at least you worked in some feet-flailing bongo drums.

See, I find that the more cartoon noises I make, the less actual pain I end up in.

I suspect this is because I end up popping back to my normal shape after being steamrollered, or something.

I have done the levitation part. Both legs up in the air. (I was demonstrating a soccer kick on what I later found out was an ice-covered section of sidewalk.)

Me too. Only I was on hockey skates with a much keener edge than I was expecting. I swear I hovered for at least 3 seconds while the entire men's team was up on the observation deck watching.

My husband fell on the ice in the driveway yesterday. His legs went right up in the air and he fell flat on his back, all whilst making that "YAAAAHOOOHOOOHOOOEY!" scream like Goofy. It was a damn shame I couldn't laugh at it.

As for your injury, I would tell you to put ice on it, but it just seems like that would be adding insult to injury. So keep it elevated and stick a bag of frozen peas on it.

If I ran the world, the big sound effect in-joke would be the Goofy Scream instead of Wilhelm.

Did you let out a Wilhelm Scream as you fell?

I live in mortal fear that I will do that when there are people watching!

I'm still living down the day that I launched myself from the top step of the front porch into the snow bank.

Lots and lots of *mojo* for the ankle, hand and other assorted aching bits.

Do have a doctor take a look at the ankle if it doesn't stop complaining in the next couple of days. Even a sprain can cause long-term injuries, such as tendinitis, which isn't fun. Especially if it alters your gait and effects your entire musculo-skeletal system.

Oh, and never jump back and forth over a fencing foil.

I did one of those falls on a flight of stairs a few years back. Here's a tip: trying to navigate steep wooden stairs while carrying a full laundry basket is tricky enough without wearing big floppy Scooby-Doo slippers. No ice involved, but I did miss work for a couple of days because I weas unable to sit down...
