I will admit that one of the highlights of last night's karaoke brawl was the young man, easily only in his early 20s, who got up and sang Harry Chapin's "W.O.L.D." I was very impressed that he knew enough of Chapin to want to get up, drunkenly, in front of a crowd of strangers and sing it. I was like, "Brethren!" And he didn't do such a bad job of it, either.

Well, ok. It was one of the musical highlights of last night. There were other non-musical highlights. But this is a public entry.

i dont know why, but this song has been latently stuck in my head since i was like 6 years old. i heard it as the musical backdrop to an Entertainment Tonight segment about Elvira, i still remember her big bouncy boobs from when she was still the only goth-slut in hollywood, anyway, for some reason it got locked in my head at that tender young age and its never completely left.

every now and again i'll be doing something mundane and i start to hear it..

I noted the difference in IPs, so it's all good. And I'm sure a LJ code could be generated for you if you really wanted to create an account just to make with the comments, too. That was my excuse at the beginning, anyway.

The only memory I have of "Swingin" (if indeed you mean the "And we was..." song) is a dim flash of watching the kid who played "Sam" during the death throes of Diff'rent Strokes either actually singing the song or just lip-synching it, as he sat on an oversized porch swing with a young moppet around his age as well. Even as a media-consuming eight-year-old I could discern the truly hideous from the mere tacky, and discern I did.

Someday, play "Swingin" for Paul, just to see his reaction. I suggest you jump back quickly when you do, though. He used to DJ at a country bar (quick, take a mental image of Paul in a country bar and try to keep a straight face!) and folks requested that song from him more than almost any other. He hates it with a passion bordering on homicidal mania.
