Overheard at the haircut place

MOTHER (paying for haircuts): Now once we're done here, we'll go to TJs and get you a new bikini.
DAUGHTER: Oh my god, no! Don't tell me they started selling bikinis now.
MOTHER: What do you mean? They always have.
DAUGHTER: ...oh, you're talking about TJ Maxx! I thought you meant Trader Joe's and was thinking what a horrible place that would be to buy swimsuits.

It emerged from the ruins of Framingham-based Zayre Corporation. BJ's Wholesale Club was another Zayre offshoot.

I think it spread a fair amount, though -- as I say, I remember it from Cincinnati, so I don't think of it as a particularly Bostonian chain -- but still, today I have learned something.

Ugh. Zayre. I suppose I have to give a begrudging amount of respect for a department store that made me feel more suicidal than being inside Wal-Mart (or Venture, for that matter).
