Mr. Writing Man's Writing Tip #91
Apr. 29th, 2008 10:10 pm#91. When writing vocal direction, avoid lapsing into French no matter how sleep-deprived and goofy you're feeling.1 The parenthetical direction (SKEPTICALLY, COMME TOUJOURS) may be a viable description of the character's attitude, especially if the character is often skeptical, and it also may be amusing as all get-out at 10:11 pm on a Tuesday evening after several cups of delicious black tea, but it's not very helpful. Nor will it be funny at 7:30 on a Wednesday morning.
My name is Spatch and I approve this Writing Tip.
1. Unless you're writing entirely in French, in which case by all means continuez.
