Geoffrey Perkins, who had a hand in the creation of many British comedy series, from I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue and The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy on the radio to The Fast Show, Big Train and Father Ted on television has died in an accident. It's amazing one man could have produced so much. His work has greatly influenced quite a many of us, I know.

But more than that, he also was the man responsible for Mornington Crescent.

Services will be held at Hampstead Heath by way of a Moorgate-Kings Cross diagonal shunt, reversing LV and, unfortunately, putting Mr. Perkins into permanent knid.

He was in some way responsible for pretty much everything I've ever enjoyed on tv. This is not a good day.

How odd, I unwittingly paid tribute to him yesterday, when I was trying to think of some DVD to watch, and I put in Hitchhiker's (the BBC tv version). I even went through one of those eerie moments of pulling my hand back and thinking, "Nah, I don't want to watch HHGG right now" and then a stronger force in my head saying, "Yes you do."

Mornington Crescent had a brief heyday on ifMUD for some reason, which is the only reason why I'm familiar with it.
