two things about They Might Be Giants that I didn't know

1. They recorded a version of Jean-Jacques Perrey's "Baroque Hoedown" for the soundtrack to a documentary for the Moog (oh, the beloved Moog.) Baroque Hoedown is best known as the song used in Disneyland's classic Main Street Electrical Parade (albeit the Disney arrangement throws in a medley of Disney tunes and extends the main motif way out for the full 12-minute show.)

2. They also recorded a version of the Sherman Brothers' "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" for use in Disney's animated film Meet the Robinsons which I admit I did not see, or otherwise I probably would have known about this earlier. "Tomorrow" was written for the GE Carousel of Progress, which was first an exhibit at the 1964 World's Fair and then a Tomorrowland attraction in both Anaheim and Orlando.

Considering They have recorded kids' songs galore (I'm rather fond of "Where Do They Make Balloons?" off of "No!") it shouldn't come as a suprise that they've done Disney stuff, but even so, I'm sitting here going "How nifty! And to think I found out about two of 'em at the same time!"

I love their There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. Really, all the music from that movie is awesome.

No! is one of my favorite albums, regardless of my children. They are pretty spiffy in general.

"There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow?" Really? I've seen that movie and I never heard it... I kept expecting a Carousel of Progress joke, too, and it never came. :( I must seek out this beautiful creation, so as to have that song stuck in my head again, for all eternity.

Not only have they recorded kids' songs galore, they recorded Here Come the ABCs and 123s (and, I assume, the upcoming Here Comes Science) for Disney's music label. Apparently Disney basically is the big time when it comes to kids' music; that's how you get your albums into places like Toys R Us.

See, "Now Is The Time" is the ONLY theme song I remember. We went to Disney World (Orlando) a total of 3 times between 1978 and 1988, and my mom and I can still sing the entire chorus. But when I went again with my NOW-HUSBAND in May 2006, I dragged him in there -- and was Quite Shocked to find "my" song had been replaced. I am fascinated to learn that "Tomorrow" was the original theme.

Also, they did the new music for the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is an animated Mickey Mouse show on the Disney Channel.

Meet the Robinsons is a great movie. It is the best computer animation Disney has come out with, I think.

How did I not know about the JJ Perrey cover? This is so up my alley it's ludicrous. (well, if would be more up my alley if no Disneyland were involved, but it's not like I don't enjoy the song.)
