If the title reflects a true concern, I've gotten through Heathrow since the Terminal 5 opening with zero problems for maybe 3-4 roundtrips already, and my dad way more than that - the only time his luggage got lost was the crazy Russian airline's fault, not Heathrow's.
I was seriously contemplating doing hand baggage only for the upcoming 3-week trip to the USA because there's a layover at T5. Sanity has prevailed since then.
