Nov. 28th, 2008 09:40 amIf you've never visited James Lileks' tribute to the grooviest motel in Wisconsin, you owe it to yourself to give it a look-see. The motel structure was razed in 2002, but the restaurant still remains, though it's empty as of now.
And for those who really like being scared, I humbly submit the animated commercial for the place. I dare you to watch and get the song out of your head in under three hours.
Frankly the commercial itself is frightfully disturbing on many levels, not the least of which is the fact that they manage to rhyme "before" with "before". My teeth can't take any more grinding, Cap'n. And that's not counting the audio sync issues.

Date: 2008-11-28 04:12 pm (UTC)Driving past the Gobbler every time we wanted to go to Madison or the Dells or head Up North for Mr. Skatie's family reunion was a nice "heh, lookit that silly building" moment. I was pretty sad it got razed, though I understand why it happened. We took the time to drive up to it and do a circuit through the parking lot a couple of years before it was razed. It looked pretty darn rough when you got up close, the owner's weren't really maintaining it by that point. Sad.
