The heat in the office just kicked in. You can smell the dust and whatnot in the vents burning off just like you do every fall when the weather gets cold enough that the heat kicks in.

Thing is, it's July.

Supposedly.

Did we switch hemispheres when nobody was looking?

OMG I HATE THE HVAC AT WORK

Our building is even worse. It was built about 10 years ago, yet they can only either have the heat or the A/C running full blast. They can't have the system off, or even just circulating unaltered air. It also can't be changed between heating and cooling mid-day or even mid-week, since they're apparently completely separate systems. Once the heat is turned off in April, we can't turn it back on until October or whenever they decide to switch over.

Oh, and all year round there are these vents in each corner of the building that blow out holy-shit-totally-ass-freezing-air. I'm in one of the corner offices. Officemates and I duct taped a piece of cardboard to the vent, but the property guys sent the director a furious note saying that that can destroy the whole system. So we just freeze all year in our office, then burn up or freeze less in other parts of the building. Fortunately, we don't spend too much time in our offices.

WTF people? The building is maybe 4000 square feet. I'm pretty sure that a normal old heating/cooling system like you'd put in a house or something would work fine. I don't get how our obnoxious illogical system is somehow better. Or remotely necessary.
