"Hosting the Tonight Show has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for me and I just want to say to the kids out there watching: You can do anything you want in life, unless Jay Leno wants to do it too."

From Conan O'Brien's monologue tonight. If this really is his last week on NBC, he's going out swinging. Bravo.

Leno's prime-time show is the reason for the crappy ratings for The Tonight Show. Nuke it and give Conan an opportunity to cultivate his time-slot without interference. How many people would have bothered sticking around to watch Leno if NBC had put Carson on right before him?

Agreed. I pay no attention to late-night talk shows (that don't start with "Daily" or "The Colbert"). Until very recently, I thought they'd just moved The Tonight Show to the 10:00 slot. Maybe I'm not the only one confused by the Leno Experiment.

But Leno was never host of the Tonight Show.

(Oh, he kept the seat warm for Johnny for a while, but...)

I know there are far more pressing matters in the world right now, but I am so ticked off about this who thing. Leno is rarely funny. I have watched The Tonight Show maybe 3 times since he's taken over. Get him out already, and let Conan do his thing!

I'm totally behind on this (despite the fact that I actually WATCH Conan's show - but on hulu and I'm busy). But I can't imagine uprooting your life and family and moving across the country for a job and then having it taken away so quickly.

I really like a lot of shows on NBC (30 rock, of course) but I am SO FRUSTRATED with them right now.

I would HOPE that someone else would hire Conan and give him an awesome show to kick ass with so I can still watch him.

I've been watching his monologue for the last two nights, and he's clearly decided that he's got little to lose by swinging for the fences.

On the positive side, if Conan wins this battle, it will greatly improve his image. Nobody ever pretended that Leno was anything but inferior to Carson. Tradition has dictated that Conan be viewed as inferior to Leno which is absurd. A win on this front and Conan will earn back more of the respect he deserves.

Wait, what? Johnny's not hosting anymore??? What does Ed say, "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Leno?" Just doesn't have the same ring to it. At least tell me Doc is still going at it.
