I think he can be taught
Jun. 9th, 2017 04:33 amAutolycus the Cat is a very sweet cat and a very polite cat. When he wants to be petted he will sit next to my laptop, gently extend a paw, and pat me. I recognize that as a cat's way of saying "please"; Hestia often does it when I'm preparing her food, but Autolycus uses it when he wants attention. Fine, little cat, says I, and I will teach you basic shared anatomy by responding appropriately. If he pats me on the cheek then I pet him on the cheek; a pat on the head gets head scritches in return.
I have been doing this for a while now and have thought nothing of it other than a cute way to interact with the fellow while pretending we're doing high-octane behavioral science stuff. Just now, however, he was up on the table and as I stroked his back fur, he extended his paw and patted me on the cheek.
Well then, little friend. If that's what you want...
